Belgrave Cricket Club

Selection Policy

This year the training attendance is more important than previous years at the Belgrave Cricket Club, due to the ground refurbishments taking place at our Main oval we will only be able to field 4 senior sides.

Therefore training and TRAINING ATTENDANCE will play a bigger role than ever in team selections.

1) Player that are wanting to play 1st and 2nd eleven cricket must be available to train 2 nights per week throughout the season, this is compulsory with the exceptions being work and family commitments. If unavailable to train the player must contact their Captain, the Chairman of Selectors or the Coaching Panel before training commences.

2) All other players are expected to train at least one night per week. Players who do not train will be encouraged to do so by their Captain and the Coaching Panel. If a valid reason for continual non-training is not forthcoming the player will be relegated or not selected. The player’s financial status will be factored into this decision.
If a player is unable to train in a selection week they must contact their Captain to explain their absence and confirm their availability to play. Players who make no effort to indicate their availability will not be selected in any side.

3) It is the responsibility of each individual player to contact their respective captain or Chairman of Selectors to determine where they are playing on the up coming weekend at the start of a new game, teams will also be posted on the Belgrave Cricket Club Web site  on the Friday morning after selection.

4) Players that are unavailable must tell there Captains the week prior to there unavailability failure to do this will result in the player when available again starting in a lower grade.

5) Subs must be paid in full by the first selection night in December, if a player is unable to pay they must work out a payment scheme with the club treasurer and stick to the scheme, failure to do this will result in non selection until the debt is paid in full.

6) Senior player that are financial will be given preference at Selection over junior players and veterans.

7) Due to the Belgrave Cricket Club only being able to field 4 senior sides this year players in the 3rd and 4th elevens may be required to be rotated in and out of the sides during the season to give every player an opportunity to play the majority of games throughout the year.

8) Selections disputes if they occur will be mediated by the newly formed player welfare officers (Ben Carnell and Scott Vozzo). The player welfare officers will discuss the dispute with the Chairman of Selectors and the Captain concerned to discuss the issue.
